Tufts Changing PPO Network Provider to Cigna

Posted 05.09.16

Tufts Health Plan is making changes to the provider network for members enrolled in the Out-of-Area PPO plan who reside outside of Tufts Health Plan’s service area of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. Tufts intends to contract with Cigna to replace the current Multiplan PHCS national network with Cigna’s national PPO network.

When obtaining services in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, members will use a Tufts Health Plan network provider to receive the in-network level of benefits. When obtaining services in all other states, members will use a Cigna network provider to receive the in-network level of benefits. The effective date for this change is anticipated to be July 1, 2016.

Cigna will also perform medical management and administer appeals involving medical necessity for services outside the Tufts Health Plan service area.

New ID cards with updated network logos will be issued to all members with directions on discarding their previous Tufts Health Plan member ID cards.
