A recent survey reveals that comparison-shopping almost impossible

A recent editorial in the Tampa Bay Times noted a recent survey conducted by Washington University in St. Louis. They found that many hospitals nationwide could not provide an estimate for a hip replacement. Hospitals that did respond, prices varied significantly, some ten times more than others. A 2011 Florida law requires urgent care centers to post the cost of the 50 most common medical services for self-pay patients. Also of note, prescription drug prices rose on average 3.6 percent in 2012 which is twice the inflation rate of 1.7 percent.
