ACA allows young adults to stay on parents policies

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, young adults can now stay on their parent’s policy until age 26. A recently released Rand Corporation study revealed it has provided financial protections for young adults facing medical emergencies to the tune of $147 million in private coverage for emergency room care in 2011. This translates into less transference of costs to hospitals, charities and the individual. Emergency Room (ER) visits by uninsured young adults fell by 9 percent and the number of ER visits covered by private insurance increased by 5 percent.
