Harvard Pilgrim Introduces Telemedicine

Posted 06.27.16

Effective July 1, 2016 Harvard Pilgrim will add telemedicine as a standard benefit for all employer (non-Medicare) plan members. The service will be provided through Doctor on Demand (DoD), a national provider group of board certified physicians. They will offer telemedicine services for low acuity urgent care medical visits in all states (Louisiana, Arkansas and Alaska are currently being implemented by DoD).

DoD has a telemedicine app that Harvard Pilgrim members will access using their smartphone or tablet. The app is free to download. Members can also use their computer if it has a camera enabled for the visit. After registering and completing the screening process, members will be connected to a DoD provider within several minutes. Doctor on Demand will be available for on-demand visits between the hours of 7am and 11pm within the time zone the member is calling from.
