DNA Discrimination Feared By Some

GINA does not apply to all insurances

In an article recently released in the New York Times, it was reported that some individuals are passing up DNA sequencing out of fear of discrimination. The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008 does not apply to three types of insurance. Life, disability and long-term care are exempt from the law and people with inherited diseases could find that a positive result could be detrimental to them.
