Deadline Extended to Create State Exchanges

HHS Secretary will waive or extend the deadline

HHS Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius has announced that she will waive or extend the deadline for any states that are interested in creating a state based or regulating insurance sold through a federal exchange. The original deadline to determine if states were ready to run the exchanges was January 1, 2013. No deadline date has been released.

Also reported in the January 15, 2013 NAHU Newswire is an article that under the Affordable Care Act, that individual and small group health plans sold in either exchange must offer dental coverage for pediatric dental services. Grandfathered plans are exempt from this provision.
