In his inaugural speech, President Obama defended Medicaid and Medicare and Social Security and laid out his progressive vision of what government should do. Also reported in the January 22, 2013 NAHU Newswire is a story on the “Re-Branding” of the insurance exchanges mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Health and Human Services is now referring to the exchanges as “Marketplaces.”
The January 23, 2013 NAHU Newswire highlights a Health and Human Services rule that will give states the flexibility to charge Medicaid patients more. This could mean higher copays and other increased payments. A family of three with an income of $30,000 could pay $1,500 under this rule.
