Anthem Small Group Grandmothered Plan Extension

New Hampshire employers with less than 50 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) employees who have a group health plan that was issued prior to 1/1/14 have what is considered a grandmothered plan.

Anthem is allowing 4th quarter grandmothered plans to renew on their current 2016 anniversary and then renew again 1/1/17 with no rate change. Recent guidance issued by CMS and the NH Department of Insurance will permit a grandmothered plan renewal as late at 1/1/2017, allowing the employer to keep the grandmothered plan as long as possible (until 12/31/2017).

More information will be included with each employer’s Anthem renewal. Considerations of this opportunity include potential disruption with Flex Plan and Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) services.
