Community Health Options Ceases Selling New Individual Coverage

NEEBCo received notification from Community Health Options (CHO) that they had made a decision to cease selling new individual coverage beginning January 1, 2016. Attached you will find press releases from CHO and from the New Hampshire Insurance Department regarding CHO’s decision.

What does this mean for you?

If you are an individual enrolled or enrolling on the exchange:

  • Individuals who enroll by December 15, 2015 will have coverage beginning January 1, 2016.
  • Current members who do not actively re-enroll will be automatically re-enrolled for coverage beginning January 1, 2016.
  • CHO plans will not appear on the Health Insurance Marketplace starting December 27, 2015.
  • Individuals who enroll December 16 – 26, 2015 will have coverage beginning February 1, 2016.

If you are an individual enrolled or enrolling off the exchange:

  • Individuals who enroll by December 15, 2015 will have coverage beginning January 1, 2016.
  • Starting December 16, 2015 CHO’s direct enrollment pathway on their website will not be available for new enrollments.
  • New individual applications not finalized and approved by CHO before the end of business day December 15, 2015 will expire.
  • Current members who do not actively re-enroll will be automatically re-enrolled for coverage beginning January 1, 2015.

If you are an employer group enrolled or enrolling with Community Health Options:

  • This decision does not limit or affect CHO small and large group business. CHO continues to support the enrollment of new and returning group business in 2016 with renewals and new enrollment anticipated throughout the year.
